This month we’re exploring AI in the classroom and discussing the good, bad and in between. Researchers, consumers and educators have shared that AI has a plethora of unknowns as we are just starting to use it on a wider basis. Many have shied away out fear of change and technological inept while others have fully embraced it as a convenient addition. Finally, there is the infinite in between. In February 2024 Robyn Cook was a guest on EdtTech Insiders and took a more neutral approach to the topic and not only highlighted the role of AI and digital curriculum but also ethical material development, the various benefits for instructors and the key role of efficacy reports.

In a more recent AI centered discussion The Brookings Institution held a fireside chat entitled A new direction for AI and students: Findings from the Brookings Global Task Force on AI and Education. This report shared the various manners in which AI could impact learning both in and out of the classroom. The report was based on interviews, focus groups and research and culminated with a lively discussion highlighting the pros and cons of this controversial yet convenient technology.
There are many looming questions but some are more pronounced.
— Have we truly entered an era of unsettled territory with AI ?
— What exactly is the AI divide and how can it be addressed in the education arena?
How often are you using AI in your classroom?
Not at all
Rarely
Sometimes
All the time
